CYP Teen Internships

CYP offers paid teen internships during the fall, spring, and summer. All internships reflect CYP's Core Values in their programming and are designed to foster leadership, creativity, and connection.

Teens register for paid internships by filling out a brief online form. Registration information is announced on CYP's homepage and shared through Youth Centers.

Examples include:

  • Boys II Men brings young kings on a journey exploring masculinity, manhood, and the various internal and external factors that shape our ideas. Over the course of the program, teens learn about health and wellness, media analysis, creative expression and financial empowerment. Boys II Men internship includes a culinary program that teaches participants about cooking and nutrition.
  • Sankofa Sons, designed to facilitate a rite of passage for its participants, initiating a transition from boyhood to manhood. Cambridge teens explore the city and cultural and self-identity through intentional workshops examining themes of manhood in American media and its depiction of race, color and masculinity. The internship culminates in an overnight camping trip.
  • Blooming into Womanhood empowers self-identified young women to embark on a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-reflection. Participants discover their unique strengths, passions, and perspectives and how to use them to become catalysts of positive change and leaders. Hands-on projects focused on creative self-expression through movement, writing and art.
  • Mic’d Up centers on the creation of a youth-led podcast recorded at the Gately Youth Center studio. Youth interns will learn the technical, creative, and collaborative skills needed to produce high[1]quality podcast episodes. Topics will focus on social justice themes relevant to teens, giving participants an opportunity to research, reflect, and amplify their voices on issues they care about. The program will integrate CYP’s Youth Outcomes by promoting leadership (Champion), preparing youth for future opportunities (Future Planning), and strengthening their ability to advocate for themselves and their communities (Leadership Development)
  • Youth on the Record is a social media internship designed to empower Cambridge teens with 21st-century media, communication, and leadership skills. Through hands-on experience in storytelling, podcasting, content creation, and brand development, teens will explore the values of the Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) and represent youth voices across the city. Each week will focus on one of CYP’s six core values—Growth & Transformation, Honoring Youth, Building Community, Embracing Energy, Living Social Justice, and Facilitating Fun—guiding both the content teens create and the skills they build.
