DHSP Community Engagement Team

Support for Cambridge Families

The Community Engagement Team (CET) at DHSP helps Cambridge families access resources, understand information, and navigate systems. CET focuses on supporting families from many cultural and linguistic backgrounds with the goal of helping them feel connected, informed, and included in the community.

CET staff include Outreach Workers who connect with their cultural communities to raise awareness about resources, programs, and services in Cambridge. There are dedicated Outreach Workers for American-born Black, Bangladeshi, Ethiopian, Haitian, Spanish, and Arabic-speaking communities.

Collaboration with Cambridge Providers

In addition to direct outreach to families, CET helps organizations be more effective in reaching diverse populations and providing them with the support they need to thrive. Through these initiatives, CET also identifies new grassroots leaders who will help shape community life to benefit underserved communities.

To help Cambridge organizations be more culturally inclusive in their outreach efforts:

  • CET hosts Networking Events three times per year. These events bring people and programs together to discuss best practices and explore the issues and topics that community members are currently facing.

  • CET coordinates Making Connections, a free, in-person training available to City staff and providers from local agencies. Making Connections helps providers build the skills they need to engage community members effectively, strengthen outreach practices, and learn about local resources. Participants explore topics like cultural and racial awareness, clear communication, and healthy boundaries.

In its work with community members and providers, CET at DHSP collaborates closely with the Community Engagement Team at the Community Development Department and other partners.
