The Office of Workforce Development (OWD), a division of the Department of Human Service Programs, delivers employment services and programs to teen and adult Cambridge residents. OWD focuses on creating learning opportunities and supporting continued skill development to prepare residents for employment and career advancement. Staff also partner with training and social service providers to help residents address skill gaps and barriers to employment.
OWD's offerings include:
- Resume help and career counseling through the Cambridge Employment Program.
- Cambridge Works, a paid, transitional jobs program for Cambridge residents ages 18 - 35.
- Next Up, a career exploration program for Cambridge residents ages 18 - 24 who need support figuring out their next step.
- Teen employment programs through the annual Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program and year-round STEAM Internships.
- Teen employment support through resume and job search assistance at the Youth Employment Center.
- Partnerships with local employers to support recruitment and hiring, including multiple hiring events offered to Cambridge residents on an annual basis.
Across programs and offerings, OWD staff prioritize supporting Cambridge residents from low-income households.
