Changes to Sewer Connection Fees Effective March 1, 2025

City Seal

The Department of Public Works has announced changes to its sewer connection fees that will take effect on March 1, 2025. A sewer connection fee is a one-time charge assessed as part of a building permit, based on the number of plumbing fixtures that connect to the sewer. The new fees will be:

Commercial

  • $400 minimum
  • $80 per additional fixture

Industrial

  • $600 minimum
  • $120 per additional fixture

Residential

  • $250 minimum
  • $50 per additional fixture

Sewer connection fees go toward the cost of operating and maintaining the City’s sewer infrastructure and rates have not increased in the last 12 years. These moderate increases will help offset rising construction and regulatory costs associated with the sewer system and support important system improvements.

For questions or additional information, feel free to reach out or contact the Department of Public Works at 617-349-4800 or theworks@cambridgema.gov.
