The City of Cambridge will increase fees for public use of City-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging stations beginning April 15, 2025.
Under the revised fee structure:
- EV drivers will pay $0.28 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), an increase of $0.09/kWh from the current rate of $0.189/kWh.
- The $0.15 per hour flat fee while a vehicle is plugged in will remain unchanged.
- Existing parking meter rates and regulations at charging stations will continue to apply.
Since the rates were last set in 2018, the City has significantly expanded its EV charging network. Cambridge now operates 40 public charging ports, with 16 additional ports nearing construction, and 12 municipal fleet ports available for public use after hours. The City is committed to continuing this expansion, with a goal of reaching 100 public charging ports in 2027. The new rates reflect actual electricity rates and costs associated with station operations and align with fees charged in neighboring communities.
