Caring for Our Street Trees Together: Healthy Trees Start at the Tree Well

Picture of tree in tree well

The City of Cambridge has over 14,000 street trees. These trees provide many benefits to the public and abutters by providing shade and helping to reduce cooling costs. The Forestry Division maintains the trees by providing proactive cyclical and reactive tree pruning. Unfortunately, we are unable to weed around many of the tree wells. It takes a “village” to care for the street trees, and we encourage the abutting property owners to help with aesthetic maintenance such as weed removal and litter pickup. Reducing weeds within the tree wells allows the tree to uptake the critical water and nutrients it needs to grow and thrive.

By helping keep the tree wells in front of your home free of weeds and litter, you’re playing a big part in keeping Cambridge’s street trees healthy and beautiful for everyone. Together we can keep Cambridge’s street trees thriving and ensure they continue to benefit the community for years to come!
