Reopening of Roadways Near 221 Mount Auburn Street

The City of Cambridge will reopen Sparks Street and Mount Auburn Street and lift all detours related to the 221 Mt. Auburn Street demolition. Normal traffic patterns will be restored on April 17, 2026.

The project has reached a significant milestone. The building has been demolished, all trucking activities are complete, and the contractor has begun demobilizing equipment and materials from the site.

Over the next several weeks, crews will continue restoration work, including cleaning, raking, and other site-related cleanup activities at 221 Mount Auburn Street.

Beginning April 13, there will be increased activity around the site as crews complete final preparatory work ahead of reopening the adjacent streets. This will include fence adjustments, water line cut-and-cap operations, traffic sign adjustments, and other remaining tasks.

As traffic patterns return to normal, travelers should plan for possible delays and allow extra time as drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians readjust. The City encourages everyone to use caution and patience during this transition. Detail officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow and safety.

The City of Cambridge appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and commuters throughout the closure period.
