As part of the River Street Infrastructure and Streetscape Project, the new, permanent traffic pattern for portions of Green and Franklin Streets will be implemented starting within the next week or two.
- A map of the new traffic pattern is pictured below.
- As part of this change, new vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle signals will be put into operation. All users should pay attention to the new signal operations.
- Traffic officers and City personnel will be on-site to assist users during this change.
The main features of the new traffic pattern are as follows:
- All Green Street traffic coming from the direction of Pearl Street, except buses and bicycles, will turn left onto Magazine Street. (See #1 on the map). This change will improve pedestrian safety and improve operations at the Green/River/Western intersection.
- Green Street traffic headed to River Street or Western Ave, will use Magazine Street to Franklin Street. (See #2 on the map).
- Franklin Street will be 2-way between Magazine Street and River Street and between River Street and Western Avenue. New traffic signals will be located at Franklin/River and Franklin/Western. (See #3 on the map). The new signals will improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, and allow for the other changes noted above.
- Note that not all of the bicycle and bus lane markings shown on the map will be in place immediately. Please pay close attention to signs, markings, and traffic officers.
