Cambridge Residents Eligible to Participate in Discount Rain Barrel Program

Rain barrels
Rain barrels

The City of Cambridge is partnering with the Great American Rain Barrel Program to provide discount rain barrels for Cambridge residents.  Barrels are offered at $89.

Rain barrels offer homeowners an alternate free water supply to use on lawns, gardens, or plants by capturing rainwater from the roof for later use.  With the increasing intensity and frequency of rainfall, rain barrels also reduce stormwater runoff and allow for groundwater to recharge, keeping local waterways cleaner.

The City is encouraging residents to use rain barrels on their property to reduce stormwater runoff, which lowers municipal water demands and improves stormwater management in residential areas.  Rain barrels are a great way for Cambridge residents to partner with the City in conserving valuable water resources and protecting the environment.  You might also notice a reduction in your water bill!

To order a barrel and participate in Cambridge’s The Great American Rain Barrel Program, please visit: www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/community/ and select “Cambridge”.

Barrels will be available for pick up on Tuesday, April 30, 4:00-6:30 p.m. at the parking lot across from 63 Mooney St.  The deadline to order is April 21.  For questions about the discounted rain barrel program, contact Cambria Ung, Stormwater Program Manager, Department of Public Works at cung@cambridgema.gov.
