Roadway Paving of Various Locations Beginning of November 1st

Beginning November 1st, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, E J Paving, will begin partial roadway milling (grinding) and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on several sections of street around the City. 

The roadway grinding operation will take place November 1st through November 3rd and each location is expected take two days. Paving of these locations will take place the week of November 6th weather permitting. All updates and delays will be posted here.

For a list of street sections to be resurfaced, please see below. Please note, the entire street will not be repaved, just the travel lane of the section within the limits listed:

The street segments scheduled for milling and paving area:

  • #362 Green – next to 5 Western Ave

  • Wendell St – Mass to Oxford

  • Beech St – Near Elm Street Island on Somerville line

  • Blake St – Mass Ave to Orchard

  • Tieney St – Elm Street to Orchard

  • Cottage Park Ave – Mass to Dead End

  • Edmunds St – Mass Ave to Dead End

  • Porter Road – Mass Ave to Mass Ave

  • Carver St – Sacramento to Museum St

Due to the nature of this work and the scale of each paving job, specific work dates on your street are not available. However, please be sure to watch for paper NO PARKING SIGNS, posted 24-hours in advance, which will indicate exact location and dates when work will take place. Residents who have vehicles parked in the project area will need to move them prior to 7a.m.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • General work hours 7a.m.- 6p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Please check posted No Parking signs as the on-street parking will be impacted by the work.

  • Detours will be in effect during work hours.

  • As the street is milled, the surface will be rough, with raised manhole covers. The roadway will be lower, making the curbs higher for parked cars. Please use caution when opening car doors.

  • Access will be maintained for abutters whenever possible. Caution should be used.

  • Access will be maintained at all times for City services and emergency vehicles.

Newly paved areas will be reopened to users as conditions allow, typically within a few hours of completion.
