Cambridge Cemetery

The Cemetery Division is responsible for grave site preparation, burial services, landscaping, maintenance and customer service at the City's 66-acre site on Coolidge Avenue.

Climate Resilience Zoning

On February 27, 2023, the Cambridge City Council adopted new zoning requirments to address the long term impacts of increased flooding and heat from climate change. They are based on the City's climate projections over the next 50 years and will be updated from time to time.

Community Gardens

There are 14 active community gardens located throughout the City. They are divided into plots and shared by groups of residents.

Conservation Commission

The Commission administers the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act (310 CMR 10.0), reviewing, permitting and inspecting projects in or adjacent to Cambridge’s wetlands, floodplains and water bodies.

Curbside Collections

The City provides weekly curbside pickup of household trash, recycling, and compost.

Curbside Composting

In 2009, the City set a goal to reduce residential trash disposal by 30% by 2020, and by 80% by 2050. With that goal in mind, the City expanded curbside compost to all buildings with 1 to 12 units. 25,000 households (8,100 buildings) are now eligible to participate.

Furniture, Appliance, Large Item Disposal

Some appliances, large or bulky items require a permit for disposal. Residents must purchase permits from Public Works in advance to schedule pickup of the items.
