Harvard Square Super Crosswalk Improvements

The City of Cambridge's contractor, Newport Construction, will remove the existing concrete pavers and replace them with asphalt at the two Super Crosswalks in Harvard Square, located between the Harvard Square Kiosk and the Harvard Coop.

Work is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 7am to 3pm and is expected to take one day to complete. The rain date for this work is Friday, October 2, 2026.

Temporary Crosswalk Closures

For safety reasons, both Super Crosswalks will be closed at the same time while this work is underway. Detours will be in place with clear signage.

Please follow posted detour signs and allow additional time to travel through Harvard Square.

Crews will return in Spring 2027 for crosswalk reconstruction.

What to Expect During Construction:

• On street parking spaces will be impacted during this work. Paper signs will indicate the hours and locations where parking is not allowed. These signs will be posted at least 24 hours before restrictions are in effect.
• Detours will be in effect while work is underway between 7am-3pm. Please pay careful attention to signs and directions from detail officers.
• Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and City services.
