"Fun Under the Sun" Brings Sports, Activities to the Summer Food Parks

The Cambridge Summer Food Program, in collaboration with Cambridge Recreation, is proud to bring back Fun Under the Sun, an initiative that encourages Cambridge youth to get active, have fun, and make connections.

Every Monday and Wednesday, July 6 - 29, young people can participate in a different sport or recreational activity happening at a Summer Food park location. Come for a nutritious, free lunch; stay to play! 

  • Open to Cambridge youth ages 18 and under.  
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at rotating Summer Food parks each week.
  • All skill levels welcome! Staff will be on-site to teach participants how to play and participate.  
  • No registration needed. 

Schedule 


Monday, July 6 – Field Day at Sennott Park (305 Broadway) featuring classic field games like potato sack races, relay races, “Steal the Bacon,” obstacle courses, a big parachute, and more! 

Wednesday, July 8 – Kickball at Donnelly Field (61 Willow St.)

Monday, July 13 – Soccer at Danehy Park/Universal Playground (66 Field St.) 

Wednesday, July 15 
– Basketball at Hoyt Field (12 Gilmore St.) 

Monday, July 20 – Soccer at Danehy Park/Universal Playground (66 Field St.) 

Wednesday, July 22 – Flag Football at Russell Field (333 Rindge Ave.) 

Monday, July 27 – Deck Hockey at Ahern Field (Hurley and 6th St.) 

Wednesday, July 30 – Badminton and Volleyball at Greene-Rose Heritage Park. (155 Harvard St.)

The Cambridge Summer Food Program provides free breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals to Cambridge residents ages 18 and under Monday through Friday during summer months. For meal site locations and more details, visit www.cambridgema.gov/SummerFood
