Overnight Paving in Central Square beginning Sunday, August 23

The City of Cambridge will conduct overnight paving in Central Square beginning Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 8 p.m. Work is expected to continue until approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Street closures will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday and continue overnight. Affected streets include:

  • Massachusetts Avenue
  • Western Avenue
  • Green Street
  • River Street
  • Prospect Street
  • Franklin Street
  • Magazine Street

Areas will reopen as work allows. Detours and detour signage will be in place to help guide motorists and other road users around the work area.

There will be parking impacts associated with the overnight paving and related detour routes. Please check posted No Parking signs and move vehicles as directed.

The City has reviewed the paving plan and coordinated with the Cambridge Fire Department, Cambridge Police Department, and the MBTA to plan for the work and maintain bus travel and emergency services.
