Resources for Employeers

The Office of Workforce Development can support Cambridge employers with hiring and recruitment strategies. If you are a Cambridge employer and you are interested in hiring Cambridge residents, we can support you in the following ways:

  • We assist local employers in reaching a wide and diverse candidate pool. OWD staff can share job opportunities with participants in our workforce programs.

  • We provide more exposure for our employer partners by inviting them to pre-screen resumes or conduct informational interviews with clients. This can serve as a career exploratory opportunity for a job seeker while also allowing an employer to identify the skills or characteristics that might mean success in a particular job.

  • We engage employer partners through our programs offering paid work experience or internships: Cambridge Works, Next Up, and the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
    • We work with the employer to determine if their worksite might be better suited for a specific program based on supervision availability or skills needed for a position they are hoping to fill or a project that might not require a traditional hire or employee.

  • We sponsor several job fairs and recruitment events each year, inviting local employers to connect with residents interested in job opportunities.

  • We can be a sounding board when employers have questions about a position, answering questions about equivalent salaries for roles or creative ways to think about positions that are hard to fill.

  • We can connect you with Cambridge teens if you are interested in hiring young adults for a specific project or opportunity.

If you are a small business in Cambridge, the Community Development Department's Economic Opportunity and Development Division (EODD) offers grants and workshops to small business owners. You can learn more about small business opportunities on the EODD website
