Construction Notice: Brick Sidewalk work on Dana Street from Cambridge Street to Broadway Beginning October 27

As part of the ongoing reconstruction project, the City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will mobilize on Dana St the week of October 27th.  Curb and sidewalk work is scheduled to begin the week of November 3rd. Crews will begin on the odd side of the street installing brick sidewalk between Cambridge St and Broadway. Once the odd side of the street is complete, they will move to the even side.

The scope of the work includes removal of the existing sidewalks, removal and resetting curbing, followed by the installation of the new sidewalks.

This work is expected to take 12 weeks, weather permitting.

At the end of each day, the contractor will clean the work site to allow for motorists to utilize the roadway.

Detours will be in place during work hours. Please look for Detour signs, Road Closed signs, and No Parking signs as they will be changing frequently during the work.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • General work hours 7am-4pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Please check posted No Parking signs.
  • Access to properties will be maintained, when possible.
  • Access will be maintained for City services and emergency vehicles.

Final roadway paving will follow the sidewalk work and will be announced via an additional notice.

Construction Notice: Roadway Reconstruction Work Starting the Week of September 29th

In association with the Dana Street Reconstruction Project, the City’s Contractor, Newport Construction, will begin to reconstruct the roadway on Dana Street (between Broadway and Harvard St) on September 29th. This work is anticipated to last approximately one week, weather permitting.

To ensure that the roadway conditions will be favorable for many years to come, crews will begin to reclaim (grind) the roadway on Dana Street from Broadway to Harvard St.

On Friday, October 3rd, weather permitting, Newport will install the base (binder) layer of asphalt on Dana Street from Broadway to Harvard St. 

Detours will be in place during work hours.  Please look for Detour signs, Road Closed signs, and No Parking signs as they will be changing frequently during the work.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • General work hours are from 7am-4pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Please check posted No Parking signs.
  • During this work, the roadway will be lower, making the curbs higher for parked cars. Please use caution when opening car doors as to not damage them on the curbs.
  • Access to properties will be maintained, when possible.
  • Vehicle access in and out of properties will be restricted during work hours while crews perform the paving on Friday, October 3rd.
  • Please plan vehicle and parking trips accordingly
  • Access will be maintained for City services and emergency vehicles.

At the end of each day, the contractor will clean the work site to allow for motorists to utilize the roadway. We kindly ask that motorists drive through the construction zone slowly outside of general working hours.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • General work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • “No Parking” signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
  • Vehicle access in and out of properties will be maintained but may be restricted for short periods.
  • Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and City services.

The water main installation and subsequent water service tie over is expected to take approximately 8 weeks, weather permitting. This will result in occasional water shutdowns. The Cambridge Water Department will notify residents when water shutdowns are expected to occur. An additional notice will be sent to residents announcing the start of street and sidewalk reconstruction in the coming months.

Construction Notice: Base Paving scheduled for Monday, August 4th 

The City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will be placing a base (binder) layer of asphalt on Dana Street from Cambridge Street to Broadway and is scheduled for August 4th, weather permitting.

Newly paved areas will be reopened to users as conditions allow, typically within a few hours of completion.

The curb and sidewalk work will begin following the completion of roadway binder paving, weather permitting. This work is expected to take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

What to Expect During Construction:

  • General work hours are 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • On street parking will be impacted during this work. Please check posted No Parking signs
  • If your driveaway is within the limits of base paving, please plan trips accordingly. Vehicle access in and out of properties will be restricted during the paving operation.
  • Access will be maintained for City services and emergency vehicles.

Final roadway paving will occur at the end of the Dana Street Reconstruction Project and will be announced via an additional notice.

This work is anticipated to last for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

At the end of each day, the contractor will clean the work site to allow for motorists to utilize the roadway. Construction Notice: Dana Street Water Main Shutdown

On Tuesday, March 18th, Newport Construction, in conjunction with The Cambridge Water Department, will be performing water main work on Dana Street between Cambridge Street and Broadway from 9 am – 2 pm.  During this time there will be a temporary water service interruption to facilitate upgrades to the water main on Dana St., and you will have no water to your property.

We will try to expedite this work to minimize the time the water will be shut down. Please take appropriate steps to store water for your anticipated needs during this time. 

Please note that this scheduled water shutdown is subject to change due to weather and other variable conditions which may arise. You will be notified as soon as possible if this work is to be rescheduled or extended.

Also note that after the water is restored, you may notice some discoloration. We recommend running your cold water until it is clear before consumption or doing laundry.
