SENNOTT PARK PHASE 2 UPDATE - SPRING 2023

Spring is upon us, and we want to provide an update on what was completed over the winter months and what the remaining major work items are.

From fall 2022 through January 2023 the field underdrain system and drainage structures were completed; the new electrical inground conduit, light bases, poles, and fixtures were partially completed; the irrigation controls and new water service into the park was installed.

The City’s contractor, JNJ Sacca, Inc. resumed work in mid-April. Work on the irrigation system and its components will continue through June. At the end of April, soil placed last season in the field was fine graded, compacted, and prepped for the lawn. The installation of plants and 30 new trees are planned for May.

If weather and surface conditions permit, sod will be installed the end of May. It’s important to note it takes a minimum of 3 months after placement to allow the sod to establish and allow adequate root development to handle the type of heavy use we anticipate at Sennott Park.

Other work to be completed includes site furnishings, ornamental fencing, and top course pavement.

The anticipated project completion date remains Fall 2023.

Construction Update - October 14, 2022

Phase 1 of the project is now complete. The basketball courts, tot lot, and fitness center are now open for all to enjoy!

Construction Update - September 15, 2022

Construction on Sennott Park is proceeding well and in October we are excited to be opening the completed basketball courts, tot lot, fitness center and water play area for all to enjoy. Immediately following the opening of the west portion of the park, Phase 2 of the renovation will begin.

During Phase 2 of the project, the entire field area of Sennott Park will be CLOSED to the public. The field will be closed off by fencing until Fall of 2023 to allow the City’s contractor to complete the entire area together resulting in a better finished product. Work includes regrading, drainage installation, irrigation improvements, and resodding. We are looking forward to opening the west portion of the park and continuing with the remaining field work.

Construction Update - December 9, 2021

Beginning Monday, December 13, the City’s contractor,  JNJ Sacca will remove and replace a section of the City’s  parking lot located off Harvard Street, adjacent to St. Bartholomew’s Church.  The purpose of the work is to adjust the rear parking lot grades, to meet proposed park grades.

This work is weather pending and should be completed at the end of the week. JNJ Sacca will post for “NO PARKING” in this section of the parking lot in advance of the work.  We ask that you refrain from parking  in the posted zone during the work.  Once the work is completed with temporary asphalt in place, the temporary construction fence will be shifted back and the parking lot spaces will be available for approved parking again.

Construction Update - September 27, 2021

As of September 27, 2021, the City's contractor started construction of planned renovations to Sennott Park. The playground, basketball courts, and a portion of the field are closed to the public. The City will leave approximately ¾-acre of the field open to the public during construction to allow access to a portion of this important neighborhood park.

Key components of the project will include:

  • A fully renewed playground designed to encourage movement and creative, collaborative play
  • Significant tree plantings and an improved field drainage system
  • An extended path to form a loop around the field
  • A new fitness station, renovated basketball courts, and an enhanced waterplay area

The City worked with the contractor to phase the project to allow portions of this important neighborhood open space to remain accessible during the construction period. The first phase of work will keep approximately ¾-acre of the field open to the public while the playground and basketball courts are under construction. The remaining field work will commence once the playground and courts are completed and reopened.

In response to public input and requests from the Mayor and Councillors, the City is working with the contractor to phase construction of the Sennott Park renovations to allow portions of this important neighborhood open space to remain accessible during the construction period. The first phase of work will keep approximately ¾-acre of the field open to the public while the playground and basketball courts are under construction. The remaining field work will commence once the playground and courts are completed and reopened.
