Notice: Huron Ave/Concord Ave. Area Sidewalk Replacement
Beginning the week of June 17th, the City’s contractor, Fred DeRoma & Sons, began replacing sidewalk panels on Huron Ave / Concord Ave and surrounding side streets. This work includes replacing discrete sidewalk panels that are showing signs of significant spalling (premature deterioration of the concrete).
Repairs for the entire area are expected to last approximately 4-6 weeks, weather permitting, with discrete location repairs expected to each last approximately 2-3 days. Sidewalk panel replacements will occur on sections of Huron Ave, Concord Ave, Lakeview Ave, Fayerweather St, Reservoir St, Highland St, Appleton St, Royal Ave, Walden St, Standish St, Malcolm Rd, Vassal Lane , Larch Road, and Grozier Rd. The panels to be replaced have been individually marked with pink spray paint.
What to Expect During Construction:
• General work hours will be 7am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.
• If the project requires a street closure, you will be notified in advance.
• “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of construction; please be sure to check posted signs for exact dates and times.
• When work occurs directly in front of driveways or entryways, access may be limited. The contractor will work with residents and businesses directly to limit disruptions to the greatest extent possible.
• City services will continue uninterrupted and emergency vehicles will maintain access at all times.
Concrete Care
During the first year of service the use of deicing chemicals affects concrete, so we advise limiting use of these chemicals to keep sidewalks in good condition for years to come. Instead, if possible, shovel early and often. Follow product instructions and only use as much deicer as indicated on the packaging. Remove as much snow and ice as you can first and only use deicer on what you can’t take care of with a shovel. For wet snow or sleet and freezing rain, apply deicer product before it starts to snow to prevent snow and ice from bonding with pavement.
