In honoring his dedication, loyalty to his home city, and years of exemplary service to that city, the City Council and City Manager will be renaming the maintenance area within the Ryan Garage at 147 Hampshire Street in honor of Sydney Cox on Monday, September 20th. This area will be known as the “Sydney James Cox Maintenance Facility”.

The City of Cambridge today announced that on September 25, 2021, the first Miyawaki Forest in the Northeast US will be planted at Danehy Park in North Cambridge. A collaboration between Biodiversity for a Livable Climate and the SUGi Project, in partnership with the City of Cambridge, the 4,000 square foot microforest pioneers the innovative Miyawaki method of reforestation in this region.

In observance of the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 6, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed. Curbside collection of trash, recycling, compost, and yard waste will be suspended, and one day behind for the rest of the week. Regularly scheduled street cleaning routes for September 6 were previously swept. Payments will not be required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations.

The City of Cambridge today announced the city will launch a free Small Business Compost Pilot for up to 100 small businesses in Fall 2021. The goal of this pilot is to assist businesses in reducing costs while reducing our impact on climate change. The city will offer up to twice per week collection of two carts of food waste from small businesses in Cambridge. The service and carts will be provided by the city at no cost to the participating businesses.
