During the hotter summer weather, Cambridge street trees need more water. Residents and businesses can help by watering the trees near their property. Smaller street trees need about 20 gallons of water per week with larger street trees needing even more. If you are able to help provide them with some of that, our urban forest would be grateful!
In observance of the Independence Day holiday, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Monday, July 4, and payments will not be required at parking meters and parking meter pay stations. The offices at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue, will also be closed on July 4, however, the cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
The City of Cambridge Parks Department has scheduled the following maintenance and repairs to the hardcourt surfaces at Riverside Press Park, Clement Morgan Park, and Rindge Field. These repairs are weather permitting.
Curbside collection of trash, recycling, compost and yard waste will be one day behind schedule the week of June 20. Street cleaning that normally would have occurred on Monday, June 20, is rescheduled to Wednesday, June 29. Streets will be signed and posted.
Beginning June 21st, weather permitting, Eversource Gas and their subcontractor will be performing partial roadway paving operations on several sections of street around the City.
The MBTA announced today it will proceed with a series of two weekend lane closures on Monsignor O’Brien Highway outbound in Cambridge between the Gilmore Bridge the new Lechmere Station. The work is scheduled to begin, Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19, from 7:30 a.m. until late afternoon (3:00 to 6:00 p.m. depending on day-to-day progress). Work is scheduled to continue in this area the following weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26.
As part of work associated with the Multi-Department Relocation Plan for City Hall, the front entrance of City Hall will be closed for construction work from June 6 - August 1, 2022.
Each property will receive either 45 gallon or 65 gallon carts to replace current trash barrels and help control rodents. The delivery of multiple trash carts will result in traffic impacts.
Starting on June 11, the City will begin collecting old trash barrels the day after your regular pick-up day. Alternatively, old trash barrels can be used for yard waste collection. Only city-issued trash carts will be emptied after June 27, 2022.
In observance of the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 30, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed and payments will not be required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations.
This year, the Cambridge Department of Public Works recognized 8 employees who demonstrated exemplary work performance with the presentation of the "Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Performance" at a ceremony and cookout on Wednesday, May 18, at Public Works.
