  • Trash and Compost Collection for Friday October 28 will be Delayed One Day

    Due to all-staff safety trainings for the City of Cambridge Department of Public Works (DPW), trash and compost collection normally scheduled for Friday, October 28 will be delayed one day and will occur on Saturday, October 29. Recycling and Yard Waste will remain on the normal schedule.
  • Partial Roadway Paving Enhancements Scheduled for October 2022

    Beginning October 17th, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, E J Paving, will be performing partial roadway grinding and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on several sections of street around the City. The roadway grinding operation at each location is expected take two days followed by paving of the roadway later that same week, or the following week (weather permitting). For a list of street sections to be re-surfaced, please see below.
  • Overhead Wire Removal Continuing October 1

    The MBTA is continuing to decommission its Overhead Catenary System (OCS) which had supported its recently retired Electric Trolley Bus Fleet. There will be a crew on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2 working from 6am to 6pm.
  • Service Information for Indigenous Peoples' Day Holiday October 10.

    In observance of the Indigenous Peoples' Day holiday on Monday, October 10, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed. Curbside collection will be one day behind schedule for the week of October 10. Street cleaning will also be suspended on the holiday and will occur in advance on Thursday, September 29 for streets that would normally be swept on the second Monday of the month.
  • Brattle Street Paving Saturday 9/24

    The City’s contractor, E.J. Paving, will begin making roadway improvements on Brattle St. between Harvard Square and Sparks St. on Saturday, September 24.
  • Overhead Wire Removal Beginning Sept. 9

    The MBTA is decommissioning its Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Huron at the Huron Ave/Aberdeen Ave/Belmont Street area which had supported its recently retired Electric Trolley Bus Fleet. There will be day and overnight shifts depending on crew availability beginning Friday, September 9.
  • Closures and Service Schedule for Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 5

    In observance of the Labor Day holiday, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Monday, September 5, and payments will not be required at parking meters and parking meter pay stations. The offices at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue, will also be closed on the holiday, however, the cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Cambridge Expanding Free Small Business Compost Pilot Program

    Beginning November 1, 2022, commercial generators that produce more than 1,000 lbs of food waste per week will be required to reduce or divert their food waste going into the trash. To assist small businesses in Cambridge with this state regulation, the service and carts will be provided by the city at no cost to the participating businesses. Weekly collection is anticipated to start on October 24, 2022.
  • Second Round of Catch Basin Treatment to Control West Nile Virus

    The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project (EMMCP) has begun the second round of treating Cambridge catch basins with larvicide to help control West Nile Virus in the City. EMMCP staff on bicycles will add a packet of larvicide to a catch basin and paint an orange dot next to catch basins that have been treated.
