Youth Center Programs

Human Service Programs

The Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) offer diverse, high quality programs that promote leadership and youth development through enrichment activities, unique experiences, and opportunities to develop relationships with adults and peers.  Our programs enable Cambridge youth to thrive and feel a sense of belonging, resulting in young adults who are ready for future employment, higher education, citizenship and adult life.

Additional Information

How many youth centers are in Cambridge?

DHSP has five, fully-equipped youth centers that include classroom space, meeting rooms, gymnasiums, kitchens and easy access to parks.  CYP provides year-round activities for more than 1,000 youth.  The centers are conveniently located in five Cambridge neighborhoods.

What types of programs are offered at the youth centers?

CYP operates two distinct programs within each center— a Pre-teen/Middle School Afterschool Program and an evening Teen Program.  Our programs are designed to be in alignment with national research, promoting youth development and leadership.  We offer additional programs during school vacation weeks and summer months.

Are there any Citywide programs for Middle School Students?

The Middle School Activities Club (MSAC) is an exciting program for middle school youth. The Club is sponsored by the Cambridge Youth Programs and is open to all Cambridge residents in grades 6-8 (both public and private school).

The Club is a great place for young people to develop socially in a structured way. Unlike our other youth programs, the Middle School Activities Club is a citywide club that is not located at any one youth center.

Who staffs the Youth Centers?

A diverse, multi-talented staff provides direct service, enrichment opportunities and mentorship for young people enrolled in our programs.  Each Youth Center has three full-time staff members who guide program staff in leading planned, program activities and ensuring that programs are operating within our Principles of Practice.  A part-time staff of approximately 50 Youth Workers provides mentorship and implements program activities.
