Life Insurance

Group Basic Life Insurance

Group Basic Life Insurance offers $5,000 of coverage. The City of Cambridge supplements 75% of the cost. Employees pay $2 per month. Enrollment in Group Basic Life makes employees eligible to enroll in Voluntary Term Life Insurance. Employees may purchase voluntary term life insurance coverage at their own expense.

Voluntary Term Life Insurance Enrollment Options

  • Employees are eligible for up to 7 times their annual income, not to exceed $500,000 in Voluntary Term Life Insurance.
  • Coverage for your spouse and children is also available. Employees may insure a spouse up to $100,000 and all dependent children for $10,000 at a flat rate of $1.80 a month.
  • If you’d like to elect voluntary term life insurance, you may do so by completing the Evidence of Insurability (EOI) process.
  • Approval will be determined by the plan based on the results of the EOI.
    • New hires are not subject to the EOI process. Coverage is guaranteed within the first 30 days of employment.

Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance

Non-Union Employees

Long-Term Disability Insurance is provided by Unum Insurance for Non-Union Employees. Enrollment is automatic so no action is required. Please find additional information below:

Teamsters Employees

Unionized Teamsters Employees may elect coverage through Mutual of Omaha (MOA). If you did not elect coverage at the time of hire, you may do so at any time, however you will need to complete an evidence of insurability form as the application will require an approval will be required by Mutual of Omaha.
