Arts in Social and Community Resilience

Culture and creativity are fundamental to building a resilient Cambridge. Uplifting cultural celebrations, exploring artistic activities, preserving cultural space, and providing opportunities for artists and the community to convene. All contribute to building a strong and connected community.

Poetry, performance, visual arts, and cultural celebrations build and maintain connections between neighbors that can be critical in the event of a disaster. Art can tell stories across cultural barriers and increases our understanding of the richness that makes Cambridge a place of belonging.

  • Block parties build community, strengthen connections among neighbors, and showcase creativity to make a healthier (a more fun!) community. It's easier to host block parties in Cambridge now! We've eliminated the application fee. The City of Cambridge is offering new $200 awards to support your celebration. And Play Streets pop-up party kits can be borrowed for free. Apply here: cambridgema.gov/blockparty. Hire DJ. Buy crafts materials. Order pizzas. Host a sing-along. Have fun with your neighbors!
