Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler is serving his 3rd term on the City Council, where he works on affordable housing, safer streets &
transportation, job training, environment and climate issues, childcare and after-school programs and more.
Before starting on the Council, he worked with environmental programs at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a non-profit in Cambridge. He has also served as the New England Progressive Governance Director for the Working Families Party, working with state & local elected officials, advocates, and residents around New England to craft legislation on affordable housing, childcare, and sustainability.
Like two-thirds of Cambridge residents, he is a renter. He is also a proud union member and democratic socialist. He is a Portuguese speaker, the son of a father from Goa, India and a mom from Iowa. He lives in Cambridgeport in a triple-decker with his cat, Eden.
