In partnership with Start By Talking, LLC (SBT) and Transition House, the City of Cambridge conducted a needs assessment to evaluate and clarify justice needs for survivors of color who have experienced domestic and gender-based violence.
Start by Believing is an international public awareness campaign launched in 2011 by End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), a professional training organization that helps law enforcement and allied professionals improve their response to sexual assault and other gender-based crimes like Human Trafficking and Intimate Partner Violence.
The City of Cambridge Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative and Transition House are holding a virtual summit, "Beyond Survivors and Abusers: Reframing Domestic Violence" on Thursday October 28, from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday October 29 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
These efforts, being led by the city’s Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative (DGBVPI), are part of a larger community-based effort where several entities, including local non-profit organizations and community groups are assessing best practices in providing comprehensive and inclusive support of all members of the Cambridge community.
The City of Cambridge and its community partners will celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Domestic and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Initiative (DGBVPI) Wednesday, February 26, from 4-6 p.m., at the Cambridge Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Avenue. The event, is free and open to the public.
The City of Cambridge is hosting a community training and other events and activities to bring important attention to domestic and gender-based violence

This training will cover the dynamics of abuse, working
with survivors, tips for responding to disclosures, and
the chance to connect with many resources in
Cambridge who help survivors.
A candlelight vigil will be held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., on the steps of Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue, in observance of national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Other October events include a training on working with domestic violence survivors on Oct. 16 and a Purple Thursday solidarity campaign on Oct. 19.
