Community Engagement & Outreach

The DGBVPI works to improve access and use of services through community partnerships. We co-facilitate the Cambridge Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and the DGBVPI Steering Committee. In these settings, organizations gain a deeper understanding of how DGBV shows up in different settings and collaborate to find ways to address it. We work to make sure the Cambridge community has, “no wrong door” for survivors seeking services or someone causing harm who wants to change their behavior.

The Initiative draws upon the wisdom of the community to create resources and tools that can be distributed to help others.

Coffee for A Cause

In collaboration with members of the SART team, the Initiative organized community outreach/awareness raising events at local coffee shops. Local providers tabled and handed out pamphlets sharing information about sexual violence to community members. Event pamphlet written and designed by Nicole Luz of the Victim Rights Law Center.

Vigil

Each October, the Initiative hosts a vigil to remember and honor the people whose lives were lost in Massachusetts due to domestic violence in the past year. It is an opportunity to celebrate survivors and increase public awareness about the issue. The Initiative uses a, “Silent Witness” exhibit through the day into the event to help the community engage with the topic with advocates available for support throughout the day.
