Cambridge Announces 2025 "Main Streets" Energy Efficiency Initiative for Small Businesses

Energy experts will be going door-to-door in Cambridge next week to offer small businesses, nonprofits, and houses of worship information about incentives and services that can help them lower their energy bills. It’s part of the Main Streets program, which provides extra incentives to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs.

From June 16 – June 20, experts from AECOM will offer on-site assessments to identify energy-saving opportunities such as increased insulation, occupancy sensors, programmable thermostats, refrigeration controls, compressed air upgrades, lighting controls and more. Improvements like installing aerators and spray valves happen on the spot at no cost to the customer. More involved projects, like the installation of energy-efficient motor controls, are scheduled for a future date. And the experts will tell customers which incentives, programs and services might lower the cost of the project.

Cambridge is partnering with Eversource on the Main Streets program, the premier small business energy efficiency initiative administered by the Sponsors of Mass Save®.

“We are excited to once again partner with Eversource on this year’s Main Streets energy efficiency initiative to support our small local businesses and non-profits,” said Chief Climate Officer Julie Wormser. “The 130 Cambridge businesses who participated last year saved more than $2.5 million in project costs through the incentives offered. We hope to have even greater participation this year.”

Local licensed electricians and energy solutions providers contracted by Eversource will complete approved projects and ensure minimal disruption to daily business operations, and all high-efficiency products installed as part of this initiative include warranties for both materials and labor.

Through Main Streets, we are helping thousands of small businesses across Massachusetts reduce energy usage and costs, said Eversource Vice President for Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility Tilak Subrahmanian. We’re excited to engage with these communities and bring tailored energy efficiency solutions to small and micro businesses, while contributing to a more sustainable future.
