Cambridge Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Impacts and Street Closures for Boston Calling and Boston’s Run to Remember Road Race

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout Memorial Day weekend due to two significant events on May 23-25, 2025. 

Traffic impacts and street closures are expected throughout the weekend across Cambridge. Please follow all posted detour signage, plan ahead, and consider using alternative routes or modes of transportation.

 

Friday, May 23 – Sunday, May 25: Boston Calling Music Festival

The Boston Calling Music Festival will take place at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston from Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26. Expect street closures in Harvard Square between 9 p.m. and midnight each night. Cambridge residents who experience noise or other impacts from the event should contact the 24/7 Boston Calling Hotline at 617-420-2245 or call the City of Cambridge Non-Emergency Line at 617-349-3300.

Road Closures and Traffic Impacts:

  • Beginning at 9 p.m. on all three nights, N. Harvard Street, in Allston, will be closed to allow for maximum attendee departure and pedestrian safety.

  • Cambridge Police Department plans the following street closures at 9 p.m. as well:

  • JFK from Mass Ave. to the River

  • Mass Ave. from Garden to JFK/Brattle

  • Mt. Auburn from Brattle to Dunster

  • Brattle Street at Mt. Auburn

  • Church Street from Mass Ave. to Palmer Street

  • Palmer Street

  • South Street from JFK to Dunster

  • Mt. Auburn Street from Hawthorn Street into Harvard Square, may occur at other peak pedestrian times

 

Festival attendees are directed to take Public Transportation and not drive to the Festival. Traffic & Parking Officers in both Boston and Cambridge will be monitoring residential roads. The MBTA is increasing Red Line frequency from 6PM - 2AM for all 3 nights; and the bus routes #66 & #86 will be on diversion due to N. Harvard St. & JFK St. being closed at the end of the evening. Sunday, May 25, 2025: Boston’s Run to Remember

 

Boston's Run to Remember will take place along the Charles River on Sunday, May 25, 2025, beginning at 7 a.m.  The race route begins and ends in Boston, but a portion of the half marathon takes runners through Cambridge on Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) property along Edwin Land Boulevard and Memorial Drive. 

Cambridge road closures include:

  • Starting Sunday morning, May 25, portions of Memorial Drive will be closed from Cambridgeside Place to JFK Street to accommodate the race. 

The entire road will reopen to vehicular traffic on Sunday, May 25, at 2 pm.
