Description

The City of Cambridge Department of Veterans Services (DVS) invites the public to attend three Memorial Day Weekend Observance Events:

Grave Decoration Day on May 23; Observance for maritime military members lost due to maritime battles on May 23; and the Memorial Day Observance event on May 25.

Additionally, in partnership with the MA250 campaign, an initiative that celebrates 250 years of America’s independence and Massachusetts’ revolutionary legacy, the City of Cambridge will participate in other events showcasing the stories that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence. Grave Decoration Day Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m.
The Cambridge community is invited to join Cambridge Little League and Scout members in the decoration of veterans’ graves with flags on Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m., at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue.

Observance for Maritime Military Members Saturday, May 23, at 12:30 p.m.
Join us to commemorate military members lost due to maritime battles/ disasters. We will release flowers, have a moment of silence, and reflect while listening to a recording of the Navy Academy Choir at 12:30 at American Legion Marsh Post 442, 5 Greenough Blvd.

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony Monday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m.
City of Cambridge DVS Director Cynthia Harris will emcee the Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common, 1500 Massachusetts Avenue, to commemorate the lives of our military members with the assistance of Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, Vice Mayor Burhan Azeem, along with Marc McGovern, Co-Chair of the Human Services and Veterans Committee.

Cambridge Common is located just outside of Harvard Square surrounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street, and Waterhouse Street.  

Family friendly events and entertainment following the ceremony will include a Petting Zoo and Live Entertainment will be provided by Monkeys with Crayons. Food and refreshments will be provided for service members.
