Keep Cambridge Thriving – Shop Local

This is a logo of the City of Cambridge's Annual National Small Business Month celebration. It is blue and white and contains an drawing of a storefront.

Every year in May for National Small Business Month, we celebrate the backbone of our nation’s economy - small businesses! Let’s show some love to the shops, cafés, and services that make our city unique by shopping local. Use this month to build a regular habit of shopping small and locally that will last all year.

Cambridge is home to many of the state’s most successful businesses. Yet, our small businesses are facing tough times and competition from online giants. Remote work means fewer commuters and other regular visitors to our city. So local trips for dining, shopping, and socializing are important. Your presence counts and your spending is powerful!

Let your actions for National Small Business Month spark a return to shopping local.

  • Shop locally before using your prime online shop. Many local businesses offer online shopping and delivery.
  • Swap one regular online purchase for a local one. Predictable business provides stability to small businesses.
  • Become an influencer in real life. Tell your friends, family, and colleagues about your favorite local businesses.
  • Bring big spending back home. Explore local options for big ticket items. Local shops can customize products and services just for you.

This National Small Business Month, your choices can sustain and grow our very special local shops.
