Qualifying Life Event

Benefits eligible employees can make changes to current health insurance coverage during Open Enrollment in the fall and spring, or due to a Qualifying Life Events (QLE).  If you are making a change due to a QLE, it will require documentation and must be made within 30 days of the effective date of that event.

Here are some common examples of a Qualifying Life Event:

  • New hires within 30 days of start date of employment
  • Marriage
  • Birth, Adoption, Guardianship
  • Loss of Coverage
  • Children Aging off of Parent’s Plan
  • Divorce or Legal Separation
  • Change in Spouses Employment Status
  • Change in Benefits Eligibility Status (e.g. moving to more/fewer than 20 regularly-scheduled hours a week)
  • Relocation - Moving Out of Coverage Area
  • Death of a Dependent
