  • Take a Sustainable Action with Gabe Shapiro & Francesca Reznik
  • Local nonprofit All in Energy has partnered with The City of Cambridge to help the City achieve its goal of Net Zero Carbon. The organization will be giving a talk during Science in the City on sustainable actions you can take this Earth Day, all of which are accessible through programs offered by the City of Cambridge and Eversource! The presentation will focus on renewable energy opportunities, avenues for energy efficiency, and electrification. Learn about how to get a no-cost home energy assessment, clean up your energy bill, and even start using 100% renewable electricity.

2:15-3:00

  • EPA and Eastern Research Group will discuss the findings of their study on best options for food waste management in MA, while DPW will discuss our program in Cambridge. Followed by 15-min Q&A session.

3:00-3:20

  • Youth conversation on sustainable transportation technology with Team CDD Bike Team, led by Adi Philson

3:20-3:40

  • CDD and the EF Glocal Challenge - CRLS interns from Faucet Failures, led by Simon Simpson
  • Faucet Failures video game beta testing – help us make this game about water conservation and the new Charles River Conservancy floating wetland even better than it already is.

3:40-4:00

  • Wildlife Q&A with the Water Department's Ranger Tim Puopolo

4:00-4:15

  • Bicycle Physics Demystified – the science of bike mechanics with the Community Development Department's Adi Philson
  • Did you know that bicycles are the most energy efficient transportation machine ever invented? But how do bicycles work? Why is it easier to stay upright on your bicycle when moving at faster speeds? How and why does your bicycle use air to keep rolling? In this workshop, we will answer these questions while breaking down some of the physics behind bicycles using props and demonstrations, so the next time you get on your bicycle, you will understand a little more of the science that creates the magic of bicycling!

  • Oral Health and Tap Water - what's the connection!? A video by the Cambridge Public Health Department
