  Defying the Crown in Early Cambridge: The 1664 Petition Campaign and Grassroots Constitutionalism

  The new king Charles II sent royal commissioners to New England in 1664 in order to pressure colonists into compliance with his metropolitan agenda. When these royal commissioners tried to claim full authority over local courts and militias, Cambridge inhabitants were among the first to act in defiance. Their grassroots petition campaign drew on the experience of the English civil wars and pointed the way forward to the American Revolution. Adrian Chastain Weimer is a Professor of History at Providence College and is currently a Long-term Fellow at the John Carter Brown Library. She is the author of A Constitutional Culture: New England and the Struggle against Arbitrary Rule in the Restoration Empire (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2023) and Martyrs' Mirror: Persecution and Holiness in Early New England (Oxford University Press, 2011).

  The Climate and Sustainability Implications of Generative AI (Main)

  Are you curious about the hype around artificial intelligence (AI)? Are you concerned about the environmental impact of AI and wondering what can be done about it? Join Dr. Noman Bashir as he discusses his work and answers your questions about the environmental implications of generative AI. Dr. Bashir is currently a Computing & Climate Impact Fellow at MIT's Climate & Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) as well as a postdoctoral researcher at the MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Noman Bashir holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on designing, prototyping, and analyzing experimental computer systems that enable decarbonizing societal-scale systems, such as computing systems, electric grids, buildings, and transportation.

  3D Printing 101: Game Piece Design (Main)

  Learn how to create your favorite game piece in digital space and print it out using our Prusa 3D printers. Before taking this workshop: Complete Hive Safety Training Create a free Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com You will get hands-on experience running the 3D printer, gain fundamental 3D modeling skills using Tinkercad, and earn your 3D Printing certification for future reservations in The Hive. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com prior to arriving. Parents may need to assist users under the age of 18 to create an account prior to arriving. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
