    • Free Document Shredding Event

      Citywide Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA 02139

      Documents will be destroyed on the spot in a highly advanced technical mobile shredding truck and sent for recycling.

    • Sewing 101 (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop. If you have not completed the training, you will be removed from the class—even if you plan to take it later. To take Safety Training, come to The Hive during Open Shop to watch a ten-minute video or take a Safety Training class. Check hours on our calendar: [link]. Please arrive on time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be able to join the class.

    • Learn to Bike On Road Skills Workshop

      Sennot Park 

      On-Road Skills is a free workshop designed for adults who already know how to ride a bike but want to build confidence riding safely on city streets. Participants will practice real-world riding skills during a guided ride in Cambridge. Bicycles and helmets will be provided.

    • Intermediate English Grammar and Conversation Practice

    • Arabic Story Time (Main)

      Main Library, Curious George Room, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      The Library is pleased to be working with dedicated community members to offer a special story time in Arabic! This program which will be conducted primarily in Arabic with the intention of helping young Arabic language learners to improve their skills. This program is suitable for children up to age 7. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly, and any unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information.

    • 3D Printing 101 (Main)

      Learn to 3D print items in our library and create a 3D model to print using our Prusa 3D printers! Before taking this workshop: Complete Hive Safety Training Create a free Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com You will get hands-on experience running the 3D printer, gain fundamental 3D modeling skills using Tinkercad, and earn your 3D Printing certification for future reservations in The Hive. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com prior to arriving. Parents may need to assist users under the age of 18 to create an account prior to arriving. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop. Please arrive on time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be able to join the class.

    • Cambridge Arts Open Studios

      Shop for paintings, prints, clothing, ceramics, and all sorts of locally-made creations by more than 70 artists when you visit their studios and in group exhibitions in Common Venues throughout the city.

    • Drop-in Maker Studio (O'Neill)

      O'Neill Branch, 70 Rindge Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140

      Come to the Library to create something special! Use your own supplies or try out our equipment! You can use our 1-inch button maker, 2.5 inch button maker, 3-D Doodle pens, or Janome sewing machines. The Library will provide basic supplies. This drop-in program is for people who feel comfortable using these machines on their own. The Library will not provide instruction. Anyone wishing to use the sewing machines must have completed a Sewing 101 training through the Library. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

    • Open Shop (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      During Open Shop, anyone who has completed Hive training and is badged can reserve Hive equipment or studio spaces. Additionally, individuals are welcome to drop in to work on their projects independently. The Hive staff will assist with questions as they are able! New makers are also welcome to come in during open shop for a 10min drop in video safety training! Tool Reservations for this date will open two weeks prior from this date.
