Frequently Asked Questions

I’m unsure where to start. What should I do?

The Energy Helpline is a free City service that connects you with our Community Energy Programs and can help answer questions about your energy bills.

Call the Cambridge Energy Helpline at (617) 430-6230 or email cambridge@allinenergy.org to learn what programs might be a good fit for you.

I received a letter about Mass Save, solar, or my electricity supplier. How do I know if this is legitimate?

The City of Cambridge regularly sends letters advertising programs such as Cambridge Community Electricity, Electrify Cambridge, the Solar Assistance Program, and Mass Save Home Energy Assessments. These letters will always be on City of Cambridge or Office of Sustainability letterhead but may also include information about or links to our program partners, such as All In Energy, Abode Energy Management, Peregrine Energy, or Resonant Energy.

We encourage you to be skeptical about any phone calls, letters, or door knockers that are encouraging you change your electricity supplier or that are pressuring you to sign up for something that you don’t fully understand.

Contact the City’s Energy Helpline (617-430-6230, cambridge@allinenergy.org) if you are unsure if an offer is legitimate or a scam.

I spoke to someone from an outside organization who said they work with the City. Should I trust them?

The City partners with external organizations such as All In Energy, Abode Energy Management, Peregrine Energy, and Resonant Energy to help administer our programs. Representatives from these organizations are official representatives and partners of our Community Energy Programs.

There are a number of Home Performance Contractors that operate in Cambridge and are qualified to provide a home energy assessment and make energy efficiency upgrades through Mass Save. While the City of Cambridge encourages you to get a no-cost home energy assessment every two years, we do not officially endorse or recommend any specific companies.
