Broadway Safety Improvement Project Final Implementation Phase Begins August 10

Installation on the Broadway Safety Improvement Project is continuing into its final major phase for 2026. Over the coming weeks, you’ll start to see more visible changes on the street in the section between Lee St and Quincy St. Below, you’ll find important updates about the installation timeline, upcoming work, and what neighbors, businesses, and travelers can expect during construction.

Final Implementation phase begins Monday, August 10th: Parking Changes and Paving Impacts Expected

• What to Expect: Milling and Paving on Broadway between Lee St and Quincy St, including the existing travel lanes and parking lanes.
  
  
• When: Round 2 of paving, the last major phase, is expected to begin Monday, August 10th and take two weeks to complete. Paving marks the start of project installation for this section
  
  
• Impacts to Parking and Travel: Parking changes between Lee St/Fayette St and Quincy St will also begin the week of Monday, August 10th. During paving operations, all parking will be restricted. After milling and paving are complete, parking will only be allowed on one side of Broadway.
  
  
• During this time, metal parking signs will be changing and temporary parking restrictions, indicated with paper signs, may still be in place.

The street will remain open to two-way traffic during the majority of this work, but occasional detours or driveway closures may be necessary. More information on what to expect during this time is coming soon. Access to emergency vehicles will remain open at all times.

• Ongoing: Sidewalk and Bus Stop Work Continues
  
  
  • Broadway at Ellery, Broadway at Trowbridge and Broadway at Felton St, work will continue.
    
    
• What: We are installing new sidewalks, modifying curb extensions and constructing a new bus stop near Felton St.
  
  
• When: Work will continue for two to three weeks.
  
  
• Impacts to Parking and Travel: Parking is removed on the north side of the street, and will be permanently removed for the design of the project. Sidewalk detours are in place during the day while work is ongoing.
