Apply for the Senior Water/Sewer Program

Because of the impact the water and sewer rate increases may have on senior citizens, the City offers a Senior Discount Water/Sewer Program.

How to Start

If you are currently receiving the discount, you will continue to receive it, you need not reapply.
  1. If you are not currently receiving the discount and meet the qualifications, complete the online application form. You will need to provide:
    • Account number
    • Telephone number
    • Name of record owner
    • Name of applicant
    • Address
    • Date of Birth

    If you have your Parcel ID, it will speed up the process.

  2. Select "Submit" to complete your online application.

  • Senior Citizen Water/Sewer Program, please contact the Finance Department at 617 349-4220
  • Qualifications for the real estate tax exemption under clause 41C, please contact the Assessor’s Office at 617 349-4343.

Requirements

  • All residents 65 years of age or older who own and occupy their one, two or three family home are eligible for a 15% discount on water/sewer charges, not to exceed $90 per year.
  • You must be 65 years of age or older on July 1.
  • Any resident who was granted a Clause 41C elderly exemption on their real estate taxes will receive a 30% discount, not to exceed $180 per year. The City automatically grants this discount where applicable; therefore, you do not need to apply for it.
