The Cambridge Public Library celebrates the 51st year of its Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Lecture Series.
Dr. Brandon M. Terry is the John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University and Co-director of the Institute on Policing, Incarceration, and Public Safety at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. He is the author of Shattered Dreams, Infinite Hope: A Tragic Vision of the Civil Rights Movement and is coeditor, with Tommie Shelby, of To Shape a New World: Essays on the Political Philosophy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and editor of Fifty Years Since MLK.
This event is cosponsored by the Mayor's Office, the City Manager's Office, Cambridge Public Library, and the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.

City of Cambridge's Annual Martin Luther King Day Commemoration and Remembrance

All are invited to remember and celebrate the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the City of Cambridge's annual Martin Luther King Day Commemoration and Remembrance. Organized by the Cambridge Peace Commission, the Commemoration will take place on Monday, January 19, beginning at 11 a.m., at St. Paul AME Church, located at 37 Bishop Allen Drive in Central Square. The program will be live-streamed via Zoom (registration required). Register to attend via Zoom.
This year’s program centers on the theme Community Begins With Us, emphasizing reflection, shared responsibility, and collective action. It will feature musical selections by the Millennium Gospel Choir and a keynote address by Roeshana Moore-Evans. Through music and spoken word, the program will honor Dr. King’s legacy and invite participants to reflect on how community is something we actively build together.
The program is free and open to all.

For 15 years, volunteers have been coming together on MLK Day to provide critical necessities to people served by more than 70 organizations in Cambridge and surrounding towns. The annual goal is to create an experience that brings the community together for the sole purpose of caring for our neighbors.Come by yourself, with friends, family or an organized group. (When you register there is an option to sign up a group of 10 or more.)

The MLK Day celebration will start with a Welcoming Gathering at the Central Square Church where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke in 1960.
After the Welcome Gathering, participants will follow the Good Trouble HONK Band and walk to one of several locations for hands-on service projects. Volunteers will participate in creating blankets, scarves, and Valentines, as well as sortingfood,clothing, books and toiletries.
Don't come empty-handed! Donations ofnon-perishable food, gently used or new winter clothing and books are greatly appreciated.
MLK Day of Service and Learning is free and open to all.
