In observance of the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 25, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed and payments will not be required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations. The gates of the Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue, will be open throughout Memorial Day Weekend, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. The office will be open on Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. and closed on Monday.
Curbside collection of trash, recycling, food waste, and yard waste will be suspended on Memorial Day and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Street cleaning that normally occurs on the fourth Monday will be rescheduled for Friday, May 29.
The Department of Veterans Services (DVS) invites the public to attend three Memorial Day Weekend Observance Events: Grave Decoration Day, Observance for maritime military members lost due to maritime battles, and a Memorial Day Observance event.
Grave Flag Decoration Day Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m.
The Cambridge community is invited to join Cambridge Little League and Scout members in the decoration of veterans’ graves with flags on Saturday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at the Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue.
Observance for Maritime Military Members Saturday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m.
Join the Department of Veterans Services on Saturday, May 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion Marsh Post 442, 5 Greenough Boulevard, to commemorate military members lost due to maritime battles/ disasters. Flowers will be released and there will be a moment of silence, with a reflection during a recording of the Navy Academy Choir.
Memorial Day Observance Ceremony Monday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m.
Department of Veterans Services Director Cynthia Harris will emcee the Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. on the Cambridge Common, 1500 Massachusetts Avenue, to commemorate the lives of our military members. The Cambridge Common is located just outside of Harvard Square surrounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street, and Waterhouse Street.
Family-friendly events and entertainment following the ceremony will include live entertainment by the band Monkeys with Crayons, a petting zoo, along with free food and refreshments for service members.
