Statement from City Manager Huang Following Memorial Drive Shooting
Statement from City Manager Yi-An Huang:
"The gun violence that took place on Monday afternoon in the area of Memorial Drive and River Street was deeply troubling. The alleged actions of the suspect – who was taken into custody and faces multiple charges – injured innocent victims, put numerous lives at risk and caused tremendous fear and distress.
An incident like this leaves a profound impact on those directly harmed as well as on our broader community, and we share in the shock, concern and anxiety many are feeling today.
We are profoundly grateful to the first responders who rushed towards danger, acted with great urgency and professionalism, and brought an incredibly chaotic and dangerous situation under control. Their quick, coordinated efforts – along with the brave actions of a civilian – prevented further harm. The outcome of this senseless violence could have been far worse without their response, and we thank them for their bravery and service.
Our hearts are with the two innocent individuals who face life-threatening injuries, their loved ones, and all who were affected by what occurred."
