Mayor and City Manager Issue Statement Following Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Yi-An Huang have released the following statement on the fatal officer-involved shooting of a man in his 60s on Temple Street Friday evening:

“The District Attorney’s Office continues to conduct a thorough, independent investigation into the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening. The Cambridge Police Department is committed to fully supporting the impartial investigation, and the City is providing any additional resources necessary to support the process.

Our officers routinely face complex and dangerous situations - often with only seconds to make critical decisions. The weight of Friday night’s events will stay with everyone involved. We are grateful that the responding officers were not seriously injured and are safe.

Any loss of life is tragic and our deepest condolences go to the family and friends of the person who lost their life and those impacted in our community.

While the District Attorney is focused on protecting the integrity of the investigation, we recognize the importance of providing a full and transparent accounting of what happened. As soon as significant updates can be made available to the community, they will be released by the District Attorney’s Office and shared by the Police Department and City.

We also recognize that residents may have questions, and we are committed to being available to the community.
