The City of Cambridge proudly launched National Small Business Month today with the Cambridge Legacy Business Luncheon, an event dedicated to honoring some of the community's most enduring local enterprises.
Sixteen cherished Cambridge businesses, each serving our community for 25 years or more, were presented with awards. These businesses, nominated by the community, represent a wide array of specialties and neighborhoods, reflecting the rich diversity of Cambridge. This year’s celebrated businesses include those owned by Black entrepreneurs, women, veterans, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, all of whom have made significant contributions to Cambridge's unique character and economy.
The honored businesses were carefully selected through the Legacy Business Program application process, with details verified against historical records, state registries, and local news archives with help from the Cambridge Historical Commission.
"These businesses are the heart and soul of Cambridge," said Melissa Peters, Acting Assistance City Manager for Community Development. "They've not only provided goods and services for a quarter-century or more, but they've also created jobs, supported local causes, and helped build the strong community we know today. We congratulate the 2025 honorees and wholeheartedly encourage everyone in Cambridge to support these and all our fantastic local businesses. When you shop local, you invest in your neighbors and the future of our city."
This month and all year round, let's show our appreciation for the dedication and hard work of our local entrepreneurs. Choose to shop, dine, and use services from businesses right here in Cambridge. Your support makes a real difference.
