Embrace Winter in Cambridge With A New Series of Exciting Events

The Community Development Department’sPublic Space Lab, with support from Cambridge Recreation, is excited to present Winter Mix – a new series of free community events – that will take place throughout the month of February. Themed outdoor events will take place on Thursday evenings, and indoor pop-ups are scheduled for Saturday afternoons.

Winter Mix events are intended to bring joy and warmth to the coldest time of year. By activating public spaces with light, movement, arts, and cultural programming, Winter Mix aims to reduce winter isolation and cultivate community resilience through shared experiences. At each event, community members can expect a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere, festive lighting, music, warm refreshments, games, and performances.

"Winter is certainly a magical season, but for many it can feel slow, cold, and lonely,” said Melissa Peters, City of Cambridge Assistant City Manager for Community Development. “Winter Mix invites neighbors of all ages to come together and enjoy games, performances, and festive treats—turning the quiet months into a time to connect, celebrate, and make winter feel special."

Themed Outdoor Events

A themed Winter Mix event will take place each Thursday in February, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Joan Lorentz Park. All outdoor events will feature warm food and hot chocolate, winter games, fire performances by MIT Spinning Arts, and themed activities:

  • February 5: Winter Olympics
  • February 12: Valentine’s Day
  • February 19: Lunar New Year
  • February 26: Dance Party

Indoor Pop-ups

Three weekend events will take place inside Cambridge public schools on Saturdays from 3-5 p.m., featuring crafts, warm food and beverages, games, music, and other entertainment:

  • February 7 at Peabody School
  • February 14 at King Open / Cambridge Street Upper School
  • February 28 at Martin Luther King School / Putnam Ave Upper School

An extensive list of local businesses and organizations are slated to participate in Winter Mix, ranging from chocolatiers to the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
