The total reconstruction of the Fire Headquarters building at 491 Broadway contnues to move forward.
Photos from Thursday, May 15, 2025, show the progress of the site work, infrastructure improvements, and interior construction. The initial layer of concrete for the apparatus floor has been poured. A top layer will follow. Windows have been replaced and roof work is in progress. Skylights have been added to the roof
level for added sunlight.
The floors of the former Fire Alarm wing (which were at different levels) have been removed and new floors will be installed. Work on the geothermal system wells and electric power substation continues. The new data center is in place and is now fully operational.
This building, the home of Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Fire Prevention, Tech Services, Public Safety Information Technology, the Command Staff and Administrative Offices, was originally occupied in February of 1934.
