Adopt a Hydrant for the 2025/2026 Winter Season

Consider helping the Cambridge Fire Department and your Firefighters this year by "adopting" a hydrant to shovel out during winter weather.

We did not receive an appreciable accumulation of snow during the past two winters, but this winter could be very different. It is New England! Weather patterns can change quickly.

Immediately following a snow storm, fire companies will be out on the streets clearing the hydrants in their districts, but this takes time. We have nearly 2000 hydrants in the City of Cambridge. It is a big task that can be completed more quickly with community assistance. If you are physically capable and can shovel snow without injury, consider helping us shovel out.

Click on this link to  Adopt a Hydrant.

Shovel out a short path and a 3 foot radius area around the hydrant.

If you can do it safely, take a "before" and "after" photo of your hydrant and send it to the Fire Department. Get the kids to help too.

And Thank You for helping to keep our city safe!
