Hydrant Shoveling in Progress

Since the snow storm of Sunday and Monday, January 25th and 26th, which deposited 20+ inches of snow in the city, fire companies have been on the street shoveling out the hydrants in their respective districts.

Thank you to our neighbors who assisted. This is a big job which takes time since there are nearly 2000 hydrants across the city. Some hydrants must be shoveled out more than once, since they get plowed in again during snow cleanup.

Photos show Engine 3 from East Cambridge, Engine 5 from Inman Square, and Ladder 1 from Hovey Avenue at work on Tuesday, January, 27th. (Group 2 was on duty).

If you can help out, consider our Adopt a Hydrant program. THANK YOU to those who have adopted a hydrant!
