The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved an additional third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for certain people who are immunocompromised due to a medical condition or because they are receiving medications or treatments that weaken their immune response.
Based on new data on the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant people, the CDC is strongly recommending that people who are pregnant or breastfeeding be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House is partnering with Cambridge Health Alliance for a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic on Saturday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the 17th Annual Port Pride event. The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) recently identified 32 cases likely connected to a children’s summer program in Cambridge. Of these cases, 20 were among students attending the program (all under age12); 3 were among staff and interns; and 9 were among household contacts of staff and students. Children and staff in the summer program were following proper mitigation measures, including wearing masks and washing their hands frequently. Several cases associated with the cluster were sequenced and identified as Delta variant cases.

To provide opportunities for residents to stay out of the extreme heat this week, the City of Cambridge is opening a cooling center beginning on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, and welcoming people to come cool down in certain city buildings. Given the concerns about the highly contagious delta variant and the potential for fully vaccinated people to transmit the virus, the Cambridge Public Health Department recommends that residents—vaccinated and not—wear a mask when indoors outside the home.
As of August 2, the City of Cambridge will offer free COVID-19 testing three days per week, on Sundays from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at 50 Church Street, Mondays from 4:00-8:00 p.m. inside the Cambridgeside Mall, and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. inside the CambridgeSide Mall. No appointment is needed.
