Join us for a lively discussion of a great book in person at the Main Library! Snacks will be provided. For ages 7-10 and a parent or caregiver. This month's book is The Very, Very Far North by Dan Bar-el, a gentle story about animal friendships. In the Very, Very Far North, past the Cold, Cold Ocean and just below the hill that looks like a baby whale, you'll find Duane and his friends. Duane is a sweet and curious young bear who makes friends with everyone he meets--whether they're bossy, like Major Puff the puffin, or a bit vain, like Handsome the musk ox, or very, very shy, like Boo the caribou. For these arctic friends, every day is a new adventure! Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Registration is required — only one registration is needed per family. For a copy of the book, stop by the Children’s Room after you've registered. As a result of a City Lighting Study by the Electrical Department and the Community Development Department, it was determined that there was an opportunity for the city to have greater energy efficiency and light quality with LED fixtures.

Join the Cambridge Public Library for a Teach-In facilitated by the team of Transition Magazine. Contributors to the current issue on Sudan—Fatin Abbas, Alex De Waal, Nisrin Elamin, and Alden Young—as well as members of the local Sudanese community will speak and discuss the present-day conflict in Sudan, its roots, what stands to be lost, and how to move toward a lasting peace. Free copies of the Sudan issue of Transition will be on hand. Registration is required for virtual attendance.

The Municipal Election will be held on November 4, 2025. Find information regarding voter registration, voting by mail, voting early in-person, voting on Election Day, and specimen ballots for the election. Additionally, learn more about the three ballots: City Council, School Committee, and the ballot question.

Several publications on local history and neighborhood development are available for research or purchase. No purchase is necessary to view the books; office copies of all the books are available for reference at the Commission library. Many of these books are also available at the Cambridge Public Library.

The City of Cambridge recently presented the 2024 Fresh Pond Stewardship Award to two former City of Cambridge Leaders, retired Deputy City Manager Lisa Peterson and retired Managing Director of Cambridge Water Department Stephen “Sam” Corda. Both recipients were honored for their long-standing commitment to and love for Fresh Pond Reservation.

Highlights include: Commencement of construction for the Drainage and Community Gardens project at Fresh Pond Reservation; proposed and ongoing development and redevelopment projects along Second Avenue, Bear Hill Road, and Winter Street in Waltham; and permitting and on-ongoing construction of a new Minuteman Vocational Technical High School in Lexington and Lincoln.

The City of Cambridge and Cambridge Public Schools, in partnership with local nonprofit Food for Free, have served thousands of meals to Cambridge adults and children since widespread closures and food service disruptions due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak began in mid-March.

This Month's Read: The City in Glass, by Nghi Vo Reading Interests: The group concentrates on science fiction and fantasy. An advanced reading schedule is published each summer. Example selections include: Neuromancer by William Gibson and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. Requirements: A love of speculative fiction and a desire to talk about books. The group is friendly and informal. How to get the print book: Copies of the print book are set aside at the Main Library Question and Answer desk on the ground floor. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during service hours and a staff member can help you check out a copy. E-books and digital audiobooks are available on Libby or Hoopla.
