The Cambridge Department of Public Works honored three DPW employees with the Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award on October 9, 2025. The Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award, established in 1992, is presented in recognition of outstanding productivity, distinguished performance and service to the City of Cambridge and Department of Public Works.

Effective today December 7, 2020, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has aligned its quarantine recommendations with those issued last week by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new guidance is based on recent CDC data showing that shortened quarantine periods result in only a small chance that someone may develop COVID-19 after leaving quarantine. The small risk that someone may develop COVID-19 after a shortened strict quarantine period is outweighed by the expected benefit of reduced transmission from the expected increased cooperation with adherence to the quarantine, according to the CDC.

This very actively used park lies along Broadway at the intersection with Norfolk Street and is right next to the Area IV Youth Center. The area features multi-purpose playing fields, a playground, water play and basketball courts. One edge of the park was improved in 2010 with a walking path, ornamental fencing, park furniture and landscaping.

The City of Cambridge along with its design consultant Weston & Sampson begin to design a replacement for the Salt Shed at Danehy Park.

Celebrate reading with fellow new readers at the Valente Branch Library! We will explore a book from the Beginning Reader collection, spend time reading together, and do an activity! Copies of the book will be provided via the library; participants may check out a copy to take home after the program. This is open to students in kindergarten through second grade who are practicing reading independently; their grown-ups are welcome to join us. Registration is required. The Central Square Development Guidelines have been compiled to assist residents, property owners, developers and the City in reviewing proposed development projects within the Central Square Overlay District.

This project will install visual communication boards in playgrounds for children who have difficulty with verbal communication. This tool allows children and caregivers to point to images to communicate their needs and desires.

In advance of Juneteenth – a day that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, the City and a number of community organizations have come together to collaborate on a range of events, including a parade and music celebration!
